The grey suit Cary Grant wore in many of his films has already been named the most legendary suit in the history of American cinema, citing its influence upon fashion as being greater than anything that has come down a catwalk. His style has been dolled over like none other’s, and rightly so.
From his styling to tailoring to accessorizing to the way he carried it all together, few have left such an indelible mark on the world of men’s fashion. It wasn’t just the components, a stunningly tailored jacket or well-worn and perfectly polished brogues. It was the demeanor Grant adopted when he walked, stood around, and did normal actions that any person performs on a daily basis, but which he performed with the utmost in style.
Grant’s blend of British and American standard standards of dress have gone on to influence new eras of classic designs, the likes of Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and Thom Browne, as well as countless others.
History will show that it has produced many men, but very few Cary Grants.
